Char Li's Angels: The Skull of Saint Diana - Part VI
We were down to just three players this week; Alexi(u)s, Zillah and Kibri. So, while they ventured onto Bawaabat Samawia, the Criticorum Jumpgate Way Station, the other pcs were ruled to have mostly stayed aboard ship. Sir Ulrich continued his research, Bas worked to learn more about the ship and it's crew but Belvoir slipped aboard the station to seek out the local Scravers Guild for his own clandestine purpose...
Our session's protagonists decided to head ashore whilst Bas cycled the main crew's leave in four hour shifts.
It's clear to the visiting troupe that Bawaabat Samawia station has a heavy Merchant influence (predominantly Charioteers and Reeves). The design is ancient and industrial. The walls and walkways are functional and brutally stark. By comparison, their Li Halan starship is austere but refined and built with artistic purpose, and so this new place is a welcome and somewhat exotic change of environment.
Walking from the docking area the station opens up to a larger space with a thriving marketplace. Our protagonists are almost overcome by sensory overload as they are hit by a complex mix of audiovisial stimulus, everything from individual tech to exotic foods and spices. A variety of individulas mill and jostle around, mostly guilders but the occasional noble and one or two members of the clergy. They are mostly humans but some Ur-Obun and other aliens are seen mixed into the throng.
The trio decide to split up; Alexi(u)s sets out to look for occult and theological texts, Zillah is concerned for the safety of the mission and crew and so checks out all the marketplace looking for threats and risks while Kibri spots Ukari ideograms on the station walls. He follows those signs to explore where they lead.
Alexi finds Noir Bibliotheque, a tiny book stall with a bookseller who is more interested in reading than selling material. However they find two books of interest and accept the price of 50 firebirds.
Kibri follows the Ukari signs to discover a community of Ur-Ukar living deep in the bowels of the station. It appears to be a diverse working community of a few dozen Ukar and Kibri takes time to share and learn from them. He is shown around by Eskai ra Adaki, an Ukar steward in the service of House al-Malik who acts as a liaison with the station's Guilders, predominantly the Reeves. The ukari food, clothing and culture surfaces a lot of feelings for our estranged Ur-Ukar Householder, both a mixture of childhood memories and a perhaps a pang of loss and resentment for the heritage he has missed out on.
Zillah starts to become concerned that Kibri has been gone for some time and alerts Alexi(u)s. They decide to try to find what has happened to him. Alexi(u)s leans into the tried and testsed Temple Avesti methods of interrogation and questioning, grabbing stall holders and forcifully demanding to know if they have seen the Ukar. Meanwhile Zillah uses a combination of Vis Sense, skill and frequent "pinging" of Kibri's squwarker, to track him down. The local Ur-Ukar are resistant and won't let Zillah into their enclave but Kibri emerges and apologises. He had lost track of time and never meant to cause concern.
Kibri and Zillah return to the agora and meet up with Alexi(u)s as they are still zealously 'interrogating' shopkeepers...
