Some Bass Background
From the moment he could talk, Sebastion Kaide was ordered to listen…
His father had a strict approach to both Sebastion and his sister Sienna’s schooling and teaching in Li Halan etiquette, something which Sienna certainly seemed to accommodate far better than Bass ever did.
Whether she hid the truth is another story as Bass always felt she simply put on a brave face with her… ‘Yes father’, ‘Of course father’.
Bass and his sister Sienna were close, but any time he tried to approach the subject of their strict schooling and regimented lives, she simply replied, ‘Father loves us, he knows what’s best for us’ as though she held a scripted answer in mind.
When Bass was knighted within Li Halan, he was given a small warship (The Shadowed Sword) from his father and even led a small team for Li Halan business. Sometimes the dealings were perhaps rather more shaded than they should have been. Bass however was the consummate professional whenever dealing with his father’s business. More for his own standing and not that of his father’s.
Whilst Bass was proud to wear the family ring, gifted to him by his mother (his sister had the same), there seemed to always be this underlying annoyance towards his father and the strict path laid out before him and his sister.
Eventually he plucked up the courage to address his father directly and requested a leave of absence from his fathers rule so that he could live his life and do things that he wanted to do, not what he was ordered to do.
His father refused, and even stated that he wished Bass was like his sister eventually advising that she had done as she was told and had been sent to another territory, several jump gates away from home to assist in the family’s interests. Bass hadn’t seen his sister to say goodbye and hasn’t seen or heard from her since.
The sadness turned into rage as he verbally assaulted his father for sending his sister away, an act which caused his father to reprimand his son publicly and strip him of his crew and ship. (Bass had used ‘colourful’ language and threatened to discuss some of the shady deals with other parties).
During this exchange, Bass’s eyes went black for the first time as his psychic powers awakened. His screams of anguish and apparent hate for his father nearly knocks his patriarch unconscious as the scream reverberates through his mind.
Before his ship could be taken, Bass stocked up, moved some money but not enough to be noticed (before his accounts were frozen) and left… removing the ring and placing it on a chain around his neck… the one thing he couldn’t bring himself to throw away.
The crew of the Shadowed Sword were given a contract to deliver goods into Hawkwood territory. When Bass met with their contact (meetings he tended to do alone) they started to discuss Li Halan, the contact was talking trash and making jokes that the weapons being hauled would better be turned on Li Halan themselves. Obviously unaware of Bass's past, and clearly didn't recognise the ship as Li Halan or the ring hung around his neck.
Bass snapped, eyes black, (as seems to be the norm when he REALLY snaps) and he killed the contact and a handful of guards. At least he thinks he's dead... the guards came before he could confirm.
He took the cargo and left it as an anonymous gift to the Li Halan with a note that said something like - 'For the Attention of Nathaniel Kaide, may they serve you well'. Whilst he left his fathers rule, he was still loyal to Li Halan, and anyone talking bad of Li Halan he'd trigger his protective mode... because anyone going against Li Halan would be going against his sister (Who he hasn't seen, found or knows if they're still alive).
On a fairly routine mission for Bass and his crew, the Shadowed Sword was heading to a location to secure salvage from a couple of destroyed vessels in the area. A contract given to Bass by one of his regular Scraver customers.
Whilst he and his crew were looting the vessels, Pirates showed up in force. Bass had no choice at the time but to leave the Shadowed Sword unguarded as he needed all five of his crew to assist with the salvage due to being down one crew member.
The Shadowed Sword was stolen and Bass and his crew left for dead.
Luckily within one of the stricken ships, Bass and his team located a smaller escape vessel, it was a snug fit but it was good enough to get to a nearby waystation. Bass ensured his team were relatively settled and set about tracking the Shadowed Sword.
After finding the pirates hideout, he discovered the Shadowed Sword had been stripped clean, the pirates intending on selling the parts rather than the whole. Bass and his team snuck aboard and rigged the ship and drydock with explosives. After Bass had evacuated his team, he saw some of the pirates, and his missing crew member... a clear double cross!
Infuriated by this revelation he lost control (similar to the anger with his father) and screamed into the mind of the traitor! Eyes black, anger pouring out of him he started a gun fight, hell bent on killing the traitor.
Out manned and out gunned, he retreated and triggered the explosives hoping to kill the traitor and all the pirates but nearly killing himself in the process.
Waking up in an Amalthean hospital days later, he had suffers multiple injuries, many of which he still carries to this day; a scar across his eye, burns on his face and neck, shrapnel scars across his neck and body... along with some shrapnel remaining in his body somewhere...
